Greater Cambridge Local Plan Consultation Launch

South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridge City Council are creating a joint Local Plan which is designated the #GreaterCambridge #LocalPlan. It is a legal document the Councils are required to have, and which must fit with national planning legislation. This is the first time both councils are creating a joint plan.

The #LocalPlan creation is now at the Issues and Options consultation stage. It is being called “The First Conversation”, starting on 13-January-2020 and will close on Monday 24 February 2020. This is an early stage in developing the plan – so it is the most important time for the two councils to hear your ideas and views. No decisions have been made yet about what the Plan may look like.

The Councils want you, our communities, to be central to creating the next Local Plan. This consultation sets out the issues we think the Plan needs to consider and some of the big questions we need the Plan to answer. We want your views on whether these are the right issues and potential options to help us solve them.

The Big Themes

Greater Cambridge Local Plan

The four big themes we are presenting are
1. Climate Change
2. Biodiversity and Green Spaces
3. Wellbeing and Social Inclusion
4. Great Places

These issues will affect where and how we build the homes, locations for the jobs and what infrastructure and facilities are needed to support them, as we journey to becoming #CarbonNeutral or achieve #ZeroCarbon status by 2050

How to get involved

We hope you will all get involved. To make it easier to get involved, the consultation information is on a special website at www.GreaterCambridgePlanning.org. It is a fully accessible website and easy to navigate, with a number of videos that can be shared. You can also find information on the Council’s social media sites such as facebook, twitter and Instagram. Use the #GCLocalPlan for searches or when you engage with us on this consultation.

We have also arranged twenty two roadshow events taking place across the City and South Cambs, where you can engage with our staff and ask questions. Make plans to attend one of these. The Big Debate is happening on 18th February 2020 at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. Read about it on the consultation website.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at one of the roadshow events.
