South Cambridgeshire District Council is helping gardeners to get their gardens in order for this summer by giving away free compost this Thursday (9 May) at Morrisons supermarket car park in Cambourne from 10am to 3pm.
The Council has a skip of free soil conditioner made from the composted contents of green bins to give away courtesy of AmeyCespa. SCDC did say that gardeners can bring their own bags and be willing to shovel, although help will be on hand if needed.
The compost will be given away on a first come, first served basis so come early to make sure you don’t miss out. There will also be free advice on how to make your own compost to keep your garden green and beautiful.
Cllr Sue Ellington, South Cambridgeshire District Council lead councillor for recycling, said: “This is always a popular giveaway and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of keen gardeners coming along to take away some South Cambs compost, and hopefully be inspired to set up their own composting at home. It’s easy to do and great for the environment and your garden.”
I went to Morrisons just after 12 noon, today and came away with a load of compost for me and some of the residents of Caldecote. The service given by the Recycling advisor Julian and his colleagues was excellent.
