Making Connections Proposed Transport Network Improvements

The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) has launched the Making Connections 2022 consultation running for 10 weeks until 23 December 2022. The proposals are described as a ‘once-in-a-generation opportunity to change how we travel in the Greater Cambridge area, relieving pressure on the network and responding to air quality, cost of living and climate crises for a better, cleaner and safer future’.

Making Connections Proposed Transformation Timeline

This timeline that the GCP is working towards in the Making Connections proposals is in the Consultation Brochure here.

For Caldecote Ward villages of Bourn, Caldecote, Childerley, Kingston, Longstowe, Little Gransden, here is a summary from the Map Book.

The map below shows the routes that existed prior to October 2022.

These are the improvement routes that the GCP is proposing to bring in as part of the Making Connections transformation to start in 2023 and onwards till 2027.

Proposed Transformed routes to/from Cambourne

The intention of the transformation is to ensure a modal shift from private transport to public transport and active travel cycling/walking.

The Sustainable Travel Zone (STZ)

This is proposed to come in from 2027/28 after the network transformation. It means all vehicles travelling in and out of the STZ will be liable for a congestion charge.
