Recent good news to rave about is that innovative work by South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) officers who help councillors in their role as community champions has been recognised by a national body.
SCDC’s democratic services team has been shortlisted by The Municipal Journal for best team in their field.
Winners of the prestigious local government awards will be decided in June when SCDC will find out if it has picked up the top gong.
SCDC’s team stood out from a record number of entries for the work it has completed in being one of the top performing authorities for training and development provided to councillors to assist them to represent local residents.
Work to encourage councillors to interact with communities through social media was also praised, along with making sure Twitter and Facebook accounts of councillors were available on SCDC website.
SCDC was also highly commended in a second category – Most Transformed Property Portfolio – recognising the work to improve council housing.
Holly Adams, SCDC’s democratic services team leader, said: “SCDC always strives to make sure we listen to our residents, and by using forward thinking and innovative approaches we believe it will help encourage more people to get involved in decisions made by their local council.
“Our team works very closely with councillors to make sure they have the support they need to represent their communities, and we are all very proud to have been shortlisted for this award.”
