President Obama at 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner

President Barack Obama was in fine form at the weekend when he gave his audience a good dose of his own brand of comedy.

The speech which lasted just under 19 minutes started off with what the President jokingly claimed was a video of his birth. It turned out to be a clip of the birth of Simba, in the film Lion King! He then went on to poke fun at various eminent guests, including his wife Michelle, and the property tycoon Donald Trump, who had previously claimed that the President was not an American.

The President had earlier in the week released the long form of his birth certificate showing that he was born in Hawaii and is an American, putting an end to the speculation by Trump. It is somewhat difficult to understand why Mr Trump chose to make those allegations at this time and why he didn't do so before the election that saw Barack Obama become the first black president of the United States of America.

One would have thought that Mr Trump had better things to do with his time, than attempt to divert the President's attention from more important matters, but maybe not. The President seems to have had the last word on this, once again using his superior oratory skills to good effect!
