Connecting Cambridgeshire by Faster Broadband

Get Connected with Connecting CambridgeshireA county-wide broadband campaign to Get Cambridgeshire Connected has been launched through the Connecting Cambridgeshire website at www.connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk . This project has been set up by the County council  in a bid to get broadband services to all parts of the county that BT did not consider viable.

The plan is to provide access to superfast broadband to at least 90% of homes and businesses across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and better broadband connections for all other premises by 2015. The project is partly funded by grant from central government, and partly by Cambridgeshire County council.

South Cambridgeshire District Council is working with other councils and partners across the county to bring better broadband coverage to our district through the Connecting Cambridgeshire project. We need residents, businesses, parishes, and community groups to show suppliers where there is demand for broadband to attract investment.

Residents of Old Caldecote, as well as Toft and Kingston are connected to the Comberton exchange and are not part of the Race to Infinity upgrade that is coming to Highfields Caldecote. It is therefore particularly important for residents of Old Caldecote who are connected to register their interest.

You can help to bring fast, reliable broadband access to the rest of Caldecote Ward and the wider South Cambridgeshire which is vital for our businesses and communities to thrive. Please encourage your friends, family and neighbours to join the campaign, so that can more people can benefit from better broadband access. If you know anyone in Comberton, please pass on the message as we need them to register in large numbers in order for the exchange to get upgraded.

As at the end of August, 14,395 registrations have been received, out of a possible 348,134 throughout the county. South Cambridgeshire communities are leading the way with 4,304 registrations, so please continue to spread the word.

Register your support to Get Cambridgeshire Connected using the online form at www.connectingcambridgeshire.co.uk, or fill in a Freepost reply form at your local library or council office or contact me if you would like my assistance to help you register your interest. It only takes a few minutes to register and will make a big difference to all of us.
