Creating Great Places in South Cambridgeshire

Great Places are where people are happy to live,, work or study, and play. The role of town and country planning in creating Great Places is a significant one. To get it right, planning team receives support from a select group of experts.

Design Enabling Panel

The group of experts is called the Design Enabling Panel (DEP), set up in 2014 to provide a design review service. This is in line with Paragraph 129 of the National Planning Policy Framework.

Good design is a key of creating Great Places and helps make development acceptable to communities. It is the advice and review functions of Para 129 that the DEP provides. It’s focus is on the “enabling” of house builders to create Great Places.

Today, I joined the Consultancy team to celebrate the DEP’s sixth christmas. Lunch was quite a festive affair as the tweet and picture below show. Yes, that’s me on the right hand side far end of the table.

The panel considered three new schemes in the afternoon session with one standing out as not being of good design. I hope the developers will take the panel’s advice to revise their proposal.

In the meantime, I wish to thank the Consultancy Team of Greater Cambridge Planning Service for their work . Also want to thank the Members of the panel for their dedication to our cause.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.
