Event for Local Businesses Seeking Funding Advice

There is a lot of focus being placed on supporting local businesses, both by Central Government, and our own local authority South Cambridgeshire District Council. One of the more recent initiatives was the launch of the South Cambridgeshire Business Group by MP Andrew Lansley in September. The first meeting was well attended but perhaps attendance could have been higher if publicity were better.

Following the successful launch of the South Cambridgeshire Business Group – there will be a further meeting this Friday 2nd November. The meeting is to be held at the South Cambridgeshire District Council Offices in Cambourne at 7.30am for an 8am start.

Hosted by Andrew Lansley, this event – “What Funding and Support is available to Your Business?” is aimed at local businesses of all sizes. The event is FREE and a light continental breakfast will be served.

Attendees will hear from Cllr Nick Wright, the Portfolio Holder for Planning & Economic Development at SCDC and Chris Hardy from Exemplas, the company delivering the SCDC Support Package.

Chris will be explaining how the South Cambridgeshire Business Support Fund offers free business advice and guidance to eligible SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and that grants of up to £1,000 may also be available for further support.  Chris says

We are also running quality workshops for those thinking of starting a business, including topics such as Managing Money and How to Make a Profit, Finding and Keeping Customers, Planning a Website and Planning for Growth supplemented by further post-workshop support designed to embed learning.

Andrew Lansley said It is important that businesses have access to the information and support they need. This initiative by South Cambridgeshire District Council’s is an excellent example of local support for local businesses. There are many steps being taken to build on existing success and encourage new start-ups.  I look forward to hearing directly from the business men and women in my constituency as to what they feel will help their businesses to grow.

Cllr Nick Wright, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for economic development, said:

Our Business Support Service builds on the success of previous support initiatives and, recognising that resident businesses continue to face challenges and hardship as a consequence of the economic downturn, is stepping in to fill the gap left by the closure of Business Link last year.”
